NURBS Chess

Overview - Project 4 -- Completed Scene

The goal of this project was to take the combined introductory knowledge gained from a 3D application and create a final scene - fully modeled, light, and textured. Even though the goal of this assignment was to create an abstract scene, I reasoned with my professor to create a realistic scene. All of these models are created with NURBS however, and not polygons. That provided quite the challenge to overcome especially since that was my first exposure to NURBS and modeling with them accurately.

For an introductory project into using Maya, my lighting and shading has much to be desired for, especially since I was trying to create a glass and frosted glass shader for the white and black colors for the chess pieces. Still, in the limited amount of time I had for this project, and what knowledge I had going into it and what I learned from the project, it's relatively good for where I was at that time.

Organic Modeling

Overview - Exercise 4 -- Modeling

This exercise introduced Maya and Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) modeling. I experimented with various creation and post-creation manipulation techniques to create this abstract scene. The goal of this project was to simply be introduced to 3D modeling, and specifically, modeling with NURBS.

Basic Lighting and Shading

Overview - Exercise 5 -- Lighting and Shading

This exercise continued introducing Maya and focused on basic lighting and shading techniques. I used the scene I created in the prior exercise and experimented with different basic shaders and lights to create an overall completed abstract scene.
