Procedural Modeling and Animation (Houdini I)

Procedural Forest

Basic introduction into Houdini and procedural workflow.

Procedural Forest

Overview

Using a very simplified version of the process used in Avatar to create their forest, I created a simple Procedural Forest tool that introduced me to Houdini and it's particular workflow. I created different sets of trees and rocks that were randomly assigned and scattered across the "mountain" surface. I also created attributes to further control this process like color, percent of randomization, size, and more. I also gave the end user control over the mountain attributes as well to be able to reconfigure the surface that these trees and rocks are scattered across.

This class introduced working with Side Effect's Houdini. It heavily promoted procedural workflow and creating networks that fully take advantage of Houdini's unique nature and power. It did not focus on look-development however, instead teaching techniques specific to Houdini.
